Home: Welcome

Alexandra's Light

Let Alexandra’s goodness - her light - teach us to live a life of joy. A goodness where we, led by her example, become better friends, better brothers or sisters, and more caring and forgiving people, because of her and by doing so not only will we be celebrating her life but we'll be able to keep her in our hearts forever.

Alex experienced learning and college with unbridled passion and full commitment.  Her first and greatest love was reading and writing. When she won a national award for Harry Potter Fan Fare, she knew her future lie in communications and literary. To memorialize Alex, we are establishing an endowment which will fund scholarships for SUNY Geneseo communication majors.

"I first met Alex when she was a young girl of 8 or 9. She was studious and thoughtful but was also very shy. I watched Alex become more self-reliant as she grew older. However, Alex truly blossomed into a self-confident woman at SUNY Geneseo, becoming the president of the Phi Lambda Chi sorority as well as serving as managing editor of The Lamron, the student newspaper."

Phi Lambda Chi

As president of the sorority Phi Lambda Chi for two semesters in a row, not only was Alex thoroughly involved on the Geneseo campus, but everyone around her admired her.  Alex's sisters and friends from the sorority held her in the highest regard.

"She was really happy at Geneseo, she was thriving”;

"Alex taught us all to be a little more laidback and to always keep smiling whenever something gets tough."

The Lamron

Alex was both an English and Communication major at SUNY Geneseo with a passion that revolved around her love of the written word. She was serving as the managing editor of the Lamron, Geneseo's student newspaper. Alex was also an intern in the College's Office of Communications and Marketing. 'Without question, Alex had the attributes of an excellent writer", Media Relations Director David Irwin.

"Alex was the kind of daughter any dad would be proud of. She was smart, hardworking, beautiful both inside and outside. She was not judgmental of people...open and friendly to all. I was always so proud of how she was chasing her dream. But I think I was as equally proud of how she was a great person."

“Alex is, and always will be, one of my biggest role models. We quickly became friends when I joined Phi Lambda Chi, and immediately I followed in her footsteps—I not only took on positions in our sorority that she once held but also became a Copy Assistant and then Copy Editor for The Lamron, like she once was.

I’ll forever admire her poise and ability to always have answers to the inane questions I would ask her. I’ll forever be wishing I had more time: more time for questions, for talking about boys and books and everything in between, more time to tell her how much I appreciate her for taking me under her wing.”

Rachel Choset

scholarship recipient fall 2018

Rachel Choset is currently a senior communication major with a sociology minor. Rachel is active on campus, formerly working as a Resident Assistant for the past two years and is currently working for the Department of Career Development as a Career Mentor.

Rachel is the secretary for her sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau, and an active member of the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega.

In her free time, Rachel likes catching up on her favorite television shows and enjoys grabbing coffee with her friends at Geneseo's local coffee shops.

Rachel is honored to be the first recipient of the Alexandra Ciarcia Memorial Endowed Scholarship, as she is fortunate to have briefly known Alex as the wonderful individual she was to her friends and within the Geneseo community. Although Rachel does not know at this point where her future endeavors will go, she hopes to embody passion and positive influence in a similar way that Alex did.

Rachel thanks Alex's family and friends who have made this scholarship possible.
